1. In-Person & Remote Participation & Health
By taking part in Marathon for Mental Health, you confirm that:
You are medically fit to walk, jog, or run up to 42.2 km between 10–31 October 2025. Please consult a healthcare professional if in doubt.
If participating in a one-off ‘feel good in person’ community meet, please you will be encouraged to go at your own pace. Please ensure you’re fit & well enough to walk, hike or run 5k. You acknowledge that completing the distance is voluntary and may involve physical exertion and risk.
2. Assumption of Risk
Your participation is at your own risk. By joining, you:
Accept personal responsibility for your safety.
Acknowledge their might be varied conditions, including weather, workplace environments (especially at sea), or unfamiliar terrain.
Release Marathon for Mental Health, Volunteers, ISWAN, and any affiliates from liability for injuries, illness, or other losses.
3. Risk Mitigation Measures
While informal in nature, we strive to support your safety:
Clear guidelines on safe pacing, hydration, rest, and terrain choice.
Encouragement to split the marathon distance (e.g. ten 4 km walks).
Optional participation in community channels to “run together” and look out for each other.
Advice to choose routes in safe environments and to follow local safety advisories.
4. Course Environment & Conditions
Marathon for Mental Health allows participants to choose their own routes and times. You should:
Be aware of variable conditions, remotely or on land, including weather, surface, lighting, fatigue, or isolation.
Plan your segments (e.g., shift schedules, vessel routines) strategically to maximise safety and well-being.
“Feel Good In Person” community 5ks will be held accessibly close to yachting hubs.
5. Voluntary Nature & Shared Responsibility
This event is not competitive, your journey is your own.
You're encouraged to set a plan that aligns with your health, schedule, and well-being.
We also welcome peer support. Check in with crew, friends, or online buddies, especially during lengthy or challenging sessions.
6. Insurance & Emergency Planning
As an informal and virtual challenge, formal insurance isn’t provided. Please ensure you have access to appropriate medical support wherever you are. Speak with your telemedical and/or insurance provider ahead of 10th October to check what your cover supports.
If running in remote or maritime environments, have a communication plan in place (e.g., radio, phone, safety watch buddy).
7. Data Use & Privacy
By registering, you consent to Marathon for Mental Health contacting you by email with updates and community support. You’re free to unsubscribe at any time.
